Dear Edwin,
In late January, the Bowser Administration asked the National Parks Service (NPS) to evict the 70+ people living in a tent encampment at McPherson Square park two months ahead of schedule, without a plan, and in the middle of hypothermia season.
Housing ends homelessness, displacing encampment residents brings harm, mistrust, and chaos.
Click here to email both local and national officials and tell them to stop this harmful eviction.
DC currently has nearly 2,000 vouchers to end homelessness that remain unused. Instead of focusing on displacing and evicting our neighbors, the Bowser administration must use the energy and resources to implement housing options that are already funded to end homelessness.
SAVE THE DATE: Budget engagement forums!
Mayor Bowser recently announced the dates for her budget engagement forums. These forums are an important opportunity to speak directly with the mayor and her staff and tell her to fund actual solutions to homelessness and not to displace unhoused neighbors. More information and registration links are below. Please email jesse.rabinowitz@miriamskitchen.org if you can attend, so that we can provide you with additional resources.
