D.C.’s health director says roughly half of the city’s homeless population has received a coronavirus vaccination.

“By the number of people who are rostered, or who are considered to be documented as experiencing homelessness, close to 50 percent — if not more — of those individuals have received their first dose of the vaccine, so there is aggressive outreach,” Dr. LaQuandra S. Nesbitt said at a Monday news conference, WJLA reported.

The health department has reported 25 virus-related deaths within the city’s homeless service system, with the most recent occurring on Feb. 23.

Nesbitt said the District has a Health Care for the Homeless program for people who are living in transitional housing.

As of Tuesday, D.C. has administered more than 194,000 vaccine doses, with 5.4% of the city population fully vaccinated, according to government statistics.
